Description

Join us for Bande de filles for the Cine Club on March 16th at 7:00 pm. Bande de filles is a 2014 French drama directed by Céline Sciamma and starring Karidja Touré, who received César nominations for Best Director and Most Promising Actress respectively. Touré plays Marieme, an African-French teen trying to get by in an impoverished Parisian suburb. After consistently struggling in school, she is placed into a vocational program designed to teach trades to succeed in the work force. However, upon hearing about her place in this program, her life is thrown for a loop when she is confronted by a gang of girls looking to recruit her into their lifestyle.

It was screened at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and continued to receive recognition at film festivals around the world for its stellar actor performances, cinematography, and Best Picture potential.
