Description

BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PRESERVE –

Beneath these hills is a history of industry, innovation, and perseverance. Join us as we explore both eras of mining that occurred here in the 19th and 20th centuries. Participants will tour both the Coal Mine Experience and the Hazel Atlas Sand Mine.

All participants must be age 7 or older, and parent participation is required. Hard hats are required and provided.
Underground spaces may feel claustrophobic for some people.
Please bring a jacket; you will be underground in the mine, where temperatures are in the mid-50's year-round.
The Hazel-Atlas Mine portion of this tour is not wheelchair accessible.

Arrive at least 15 minutes early, to allow enough time for parking and walking to the Greathouse Visitor Center, located ¼ mile from the parking lot.

The walk from the parking lot and during the tour includes some steep and uneven terrain. Park in the upper parking lot, 1 mile past the kiosk. Once parked, continue up the hill, following signs to the Greathouse Visitor Center.

Each tour is limited to 15 total maximum participants.
Cost is $8 per person.
$5 per vehicle parking fee applies when kiosk is attended.
Registration Required.
