Description
TRUDEAU TRAINING CENTER (OAKLAND) and HAYWARD SHORELINE - Here is your opportunity to become a “Birding-Peeping-Tom” by peering into the family life of terns, plovers, and skimmers. You will be helping to record data about their nesting chronology and reproductive success using the Type 2 monitoring method. In this method, surveys are conducted from a vehicle approximately 100 meters from the island at various times of day, with the majority of the surveys conducted between 7am and 5pm, seven days a week. There are two sessions for this training. By participating in both, you’ll earn your Tern Town Team patch. Physical labor is involved with this project.
What to Bring/Wear: Outdoor clothing (long pants), waterproof boots (closed-toe footwear), gloves, hats, drinking water, and sunscreen. Binoculars, a notepad, clipboard, and writing instruments.
Registration required. Children are welcome with parent/guardian participation.
Participation required on BOTH DATES:
- Classroom training: 7PM - 9PM, FRI, May 16, 2025 at Trudeau Training Center, 11500 Skyline Blvd, Oakland.
- In-Field training: 9:30AM - Noon, SAT, May 17, 2025 at Hayward Reginal Shoreline, Hayward. The specific meeting place will be given at the classroom training.
