Flight Around the World to End Polio
Lifelong LearningJan/Feb2024|#17553
Description
Two local pilots, John Ockenfels and Peter Teahan, left Cedar Rapids in May to fly around the world in a private plane. The purpose of this flight was to raise awareness of polio as a world health problem and to raise money for the eradication of the deadly disease. The pilots made over 30 stops around the world where locals hosted receptions and fundraisers, resulting in over $1.5 million in donations. It's so inspiring to see how two ordinary men with extraordinary vision made such an incredible impact n eradicating polio around the world. Co- Sponsored by the Iowa City Senior Center and TRAIL of Johnson County. This program is being offering both in person and over Zoom.
