Youth and Government

With more than 500 students from 26 different schools and branches of the YMCA, New Jersey Youth & Government is driven by its commitment to civic engagement. Each session, students come together to build and run their own legislative chambers, courts, lobby firms, response committees and press initiatives. Session runs November through May. Delegates gain and develop tools, perspectives and community to take initiative. Students are better able to understand and get involved in political and public affairs; communicate ideas and opinions; develop research, writing and presentation skills; and understand the value of student leadership. Students get to see the legislative process done firsthand by participating as senators, assemblymen, justices, lobbyists and members of the media in our legislative simulation. There is no fee for this class unless you're participating in the end of the year conference.
