Description
Spend your week delighting in the wonders of a produce garden right in the middle of Theodore Wirth Park! We will spend time exploring the plants and critters that live in the garden, including an up-close look at the beehive behind the garden. Campers will gain experience in caring for the plants in the garden and will make plant-based arts and crafts, as well as a variety of fruit, veggie, and herb-based snacks from dips to baked goods. We will let our curiosity guide us on hikes through the forest, wildflower garden, and exploring the lake and creek near the garden.

Have your camper bring a lunch, water bottle, swimsuit/towel, and close-toed shoes every day.
Camp pick up is from 3-4 pm
We recognize that unstructured time is important and often hard to find, so we’ve built some into the end of the camp day. We also recognize that families have different schedules, and some need an earlier or later check out time. The naturalists don’t lead structured activities between 3-4, but provide support as campers run their own games, make art, or socialize.

This is an outdoor program. Camp runs rain or shine, so make sure your camper is dressed for the weather. Have your camper wear comfortable, close-toed shoes (sandals can be brought as well, but close-toed shoes are required for cooking in the kitchen and garden chores). Snacks will be provided, but please send a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated or heated up. Be sure that your camper brings sunscreen and a water bottle.
We will spend as much time outside as possible, but day camp will be based out of the Wirth Picnic Pavilion 3275 Glenwood Ave. Minneapolis, MN 55405 within Theodore Wirth Regional Park.
Drop-off and pick-up will be at the small gravel lot at the bottom of the pavilion hill (3275 Glenwood Ave, Minneapolis 55405, across Glenwood Ave from the beach house parking lot). Our home base for the week will be the Wirth pavilion. This is where the kitchen is located and will be where we take shelter in severe weather. We will be spending most of our time at this pavilion and at JD Rivers' Garden (2900 Glenwood Ave), but may also be at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden, the Wirth beach, and the boat launch at various times throughout the week.
