Creating Calm: Positive Parenting Workshop & Interactive Forum
This community-based discussion and workshop with Vanessa Orr (owner/instructor of Yaya Yoga ca and a children’s yoga & mindfulness book author) and Angela Phillips, PhD, LCSW (local psychotherapist and mental health and wellness author) is meant to open the door to conversations about what challenges many parents face at home, and what resources we can build to address these challenges. This workshop will facilitate dialogue around the following topics, with tips and tools to support the challenges families may be experiencing as they relate to:
- Responding to challenging behaviors at home
- Family communication
- Positive parenting skills
Meet Your Instructors:
Vanessa Salas Orr is a proud Mexican-American wife, mother, entrepreneur, creative soul and an active member of her local community. Vanessa completed her BA degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, with a focus in multicultural and multilingual populations and a minor in dance. With over 500 hours of yoga and mindfulness certifications, she has dedicated herself to the nurturing development of kids and families through yoga, dance and mindfulness practices. Her continued goal is to bring happiness, confidence and mindfulness to our youth.
Angela Phillips, PhD, LCSW is a local psychotherapist, author, writer, researcher, mental health expert, mom, and partner. Dr. Phillips has a variety of clinical experience with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds. She completed her undergraduate work in psychology at the University of North Carolina, her graduate degrees in social work and bench science with the University of Washington, and postdoctoral fellowship in Psychiatry at Stanford University.
